The Annual Kid's Fishing Derby began in the summer of 1986. Several local individuals believed that the trout stream below the Hatchery could be utilized for more than just releasing the trout into the river. The Hatchery Manager at that time, Richard "Dick" Hale, started the first Kid's Fishing Derby. Dick, along with his wife Lois, saw the need to have a facility for kids to be able to fish. Thus, an idea and an annual event was born. |

What began with a few local kids participating has grown to over 1334 kids fishing, more than a hundred volunteers, and another hundred or so sponsors.
Our motto is, "Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs." The organizers of the event encourage children and parents to enjoy a worry-free, expense-free outing thanks to our sponsors. There will be hundreds of gifts, prizes, hotdogs, drinks, and trophies for the kids.
The "Catch A Rainbow" Committee is made up of volunteers who believe in the future-our children. The committee also believes in taking a proactive role preserving our lakes, streams and rivers. We feel that we achieve both with the Annual Fishing Derby. We promote awareness and conservation; the family taking a day to be together and teach their children how to fish; but most of all, FUN! FUN! FUN! |
